Police drop-in sessions for pupils

MELKSHAM police have started holding drop-in sessions at the town's senior school.

Since February, Melksham Town Neighbourhood Policing Team has been working with the George Ward School to set up drop-in sessions for pupils.

On Wednesday lunchtimes students can now meet their community support officers or police constables and speak to them in confidence on any issues surrounding crime.

Officers also walk around the playground to speak to them and build up a rapport.

Melksham town community beat manager, PC Kevin Harmsworth, said: "the confidential drop-in centre has been set up with the aim of reducing anti-social behaviour across the Melksham area.

"In the long term the rapport will lead to better links within the local community, finding out what matters to the young people of Melksham and helping to develop their ideas into projects to help prevent antisocial behaviour in the future."

The NPT can offer advice, hand out leaflets and put young people in contact with their partner agencies.

Stephen Clark, headteacher of George Ward School, said: "It's about forming a relationship between the police force and the young people in Melksham.

"An officer or a PCSO will come on to site on a Wednesday lunchtime.

"The students can approach them and see them as a benefit to the community."

Not a bad idea, let's try anything that might help to stop Melksham's disease, yobism.

would be better to have 2 pandas on patrol on Thursday Friday and Saturday and not just sat in the Market Place doing bugger all.
