PURLEY WALCOUNTIANS 3
BECKENHAM 4
Purley Walcountians finished in third place of the South Premier League after a last-gasp winner gave local-rival Beckenham victory on Saturday.
The last league game had an explosive start with Beckenham scoring from close range but Walcountians bounced back when Mark Justice replied with a powerful shot.
Five minutes later, Beckenham scored again with a penetrating attack. Neither side however were able to add any more goals before half time.
The pattern of play continued into the second half and it was Beckenham who increased their lead with a rebound from a penalty corner strike. Nick Champness responded for Purley Walcountians with an angled shot and then Lachlan Fincher then equalised when a shot by Mark Justice at a penalty corner was deflected in.
Danny Byfield came closest, hitting the post. But it was Beckenham in the closing minutes who scored with a deflection from a ball from the left.
