BROMLEY'S South Street Fire Station has been selected to lead the borough under a pilot scheme from the London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority (LFEPA).
A lead station will ultimately be selected in all London boroughs to liase with the community and provide a contact point for members of the public and voluntary groups needing advice about fire safety issues.
The effort is a bid to make the fire service more accessible to the public.
Bob Neill, GLA member for Bexley and Bromley, backed the new initiative, saying: “I entirely support the concept of borough fire stations and am delighted that a fire station in my own borough has been selected to take part in the pilot scheme.”
Building has begun to make alterations to the station ready for the operational change which takes place in the summer.
