A school is celebrating receiving an award for achievement, worth thousands of pounds, after its academic results dramatically improved during the last three years.

St Joseph's Catholic Primary School, in Plaistow Lane, Bromley, has won the School Achievement Award, issued by the Department for Education and Skills, for "a substantial improvement in results between 1998 and 2001".

Following strong representations from staff, the governors agreed the award, with a cash value of £3,710, should be distributed among teachers working at the school during the period.

Headteacher Caroline Pink, said: "It is confirmation of all the hard work and good practice which exists within St Joseph's and acknowledgement of our continuing effort to raise standards.
