A FATHER-of-three, who wants to be a bus driver, has admitted drink-driving before Bromley magistrates' court.

David Stockdale, of Sandway Road, St Mary Cray, told magistrates he had not realised Stella Artois lager contains more alcohol than ordinary lager.

Prosecuting, Jane Mitchell said: "At about 12.10pm on September 10, police saw Mr Stock-dale driving down Bromley Common. By the nature of his driving, they saw something which was not right and stopped him. When stopped, he clearly smelt of alcohol."

A blood-test revealed Mr Stockdale had 48mg of alcohol in his body -- the legal limit is 35.

Mr Stockdale, who was not represented in court, told magistrates: "I drank one and a half pints of Stella, but I did not realise it contained more alcohol than ordinary lager. I thought I would be fine driving."

The 33-year-old, who is saving to sit a bus driving test, added: "I rely completely on my licence for my living."

But the court took a different view, and Stockdale was banned from driving for a year, fined £100 and ordered to pay £40 costs.
