Bromley firefighters wish to thank the public after raising a whopping £10,600 for their benevolent fund.

And firefighters at Beckenham station were the top fundraising station in London raising £7,000 for their flag day.

The station's secret weapon was a one tenth scale model of a fire engine which people could put money into.

A Beckenham firefighter said: "Our secret was hard work and plenty of people out asking for money."

Divisional Officer Tony Pays said: "The amount raised will provide a lot of care and support for firefighters and their families who can experience many difficulties following an accident or serious illness.

"This can take the form of financial grants for a widow with children, funding a holiday for children who have lost a parent, or adapting a home to make life more comfortable for an injured firefighter."
