A Welling man who gave a false name and address when he was caught fishing illegally has been fined £250.
Robert Golbourne, aged 25, of Wordsworth Road, Welling, pleaded guilty to fishing without a licence and failing to give a correct name and address to an Environment Agency fisheries officer.
Lewes Magistrates' Court heard the officer saw a man fishing at Frant Lakes, in Frant, Hampshire, earlier this year. When challenged, he could not produce a valid licence, claiming it was at home. Golbourne said his name was John Holt, of Wordsworth Road, Welling, and he gave a different house number and postcode.
But the officer took down Golbourne's car registration number and checks revealed the angler had given a false name and address.
Golbourne was fined £50 for each offence and ordered to pay costs of £150 money which could have entitled him to fish legally for 12 years.
