A CHISLEHURST man has been sentenced to 18 months detention for lashing out with a beer glass in a Bromley pub.

David Baker, 20, of Belmont Lane, smashed the glass into the side of Alex Lucas' head in an unprovoked attack at the Queen's Head, on April 28.

Prosecuting James Kitching told the court: “Alex Lucas was standing at the bar when Baker came up to him and repeatedly touched him on the cheek. Mr Lucas told him not to do it and Baker walked off.

“But 15 minutes later and with no obvious motivation, Baker smashed Lucas with a straight-sided pint glass across the side of his head.

“Baker was ejected by a doorman, but he returned and was immediately recognised by Lucas's friends and a physical incident took place.”

Baker pleaded guilty to wounding and received an 18-month sentence for the attack.

His defence claimed the assault had been entirely out of character, but Judge Cedric Joseph said: “You have expressed remorse, but the fact remains this was a totally unprovoked attack. You could have caused extremely serious injuries.”
