WEST Wiltshire District Council is set to take over parking enforcement from Wiltshire Police on June 16.
The handover, known as decriminalisation of parking, will see council-employed traffic wardens handing out fines to drivers who park illegally on-street, as well as in council-owned car parks. So far the council has recruited two civil enforcement officers to uphold these regulations.
There will be a two-week period of "dummy enforcement" beginning on June 2 when officers will put a sticker on any vehicle that is infringing the rules, warning them. There are two tiers of penalty fines, the highest being a £70 charge for breaches such as parking on double yellow lines.
