Governor raises school funds
Mary Parker hands over the cash to pupils
Mary Parker hands over the cash to pupils

A SCHOOL governor has used her 'other hat' to help raise funds for a school trip to Pembrokeshire.

Mary Parker, who is a governor at Longmeadow Primary School in Trowbridge, is also a member of staff at HSBC.

And she has used the bank's charity pound for pound scheme to claim £500 against the voluntary hours she gives to the school as a governor.

The cost of the residential trip to Pembrokeshire in June is £2,500 and to date the school has raised £266.64.

Mary claimed the money after she was on a visit to the school to monitor a year 6 literacy class and saw the class writing instructions on how to grow a plant from a seed.

The instructions were part of an idea the children had to raise funds by running a sponsored competition to grow sunflowers.

During the lesson the pupils worked as a team and were all involved in the task of producing directions that could be easily followed by anyone.
