ROADBLOCKS are in place following a five-vehicle crash between Southwick and Beckington.
The incident, involving four cars and a lorry, happened about 10.15am on the A361 near Beckington services.
The male driver of the lorry, another man and a woman, each from different cars, have been taken to Bath's Royal United Hospital by ambulance. The severity of their injuries is unknown.
The road is blocked in both directions from Beckington roundabout to The Bell Inn at Rode and is expected to remain closed for some time.
Ambulance, police and fire emergency crews are in attendance and an HGV is awaiting recovery from a field.

I'm sure the driver who caused the accident believed his journey was far more important than anyone else's on that road at that time, and wo betide anyone who thought otherwise.

Why not show some humility and concern for your fellow man instead of sitting in judgement, presumably without the benefit of facts?
I wonder if GSXRRRSP and Disillusioned ever make mistakes themselves - perhaps they're both immune to human error?

Of course, nobody's to blame then - and traffic accidents happen by magic..... Granted, mechanical defects happen - but the vast majority of traffic accidents are caused by human misjudgement - that is, somebody takes a decision - am I alone in thinking that the present punishments for poor and reckless decision taking are inadequate?

I don't want to stir up trouble, being a biker myself, but in my professional experience, actually a fairly high proportion of accidents are caused by some daft bikers doing things they shouldn't even dream of. For example, I was driving back along Hilperton Dr the other evening and was passed by a biker. I had my window down and heard him change up three times, with each change being left late so the enigne was screaming (I did say I was a biker didn't I, so I am fairly well up on biking etc.?) I reckon the rider was upto about 100mph and possibly more - in a 50 limit !!!
It is these people that give the rest of us a bad name.

I too am a biker for the last 25years and think that GSXRRRSP is not doing bikers much of a service on this site. I’m sure he will come back and have a pop at me IN CAPITALS as he does with everyone as he doesn’t seem to be able to take criticism like he can dish it out.
I remember quite a few high profile stories on here last year with biker fatalities, and it transpired that most were the bikers fault. My take on this is too much power and not enough experience.
I also believe that national statistics are showing a rise in bikers losing control on bends.
Don’t get me wrong, I will defend bikers as long as they are riding like complete idiots, and I tend to see quite a few like that around Wiltshire who seem to have a death wish.

[/quote] statistics are **** and made up by bike hating civil servents look at what is coming into power soon that you wont be able to ride a moped till you are 18 and the cbt is going to be 2 days long and the bike test a lot harder and more expensive but a spotty little 17 yr old can still take his driving test and mummy and daddy will buy and insure him a car and he can hammer around our streets with a mobile disco on board and thinking that he is micheal schumacher with a bit of kimi raikkonen thrown in...
the danger is on 4 wheels not 2 it is just that bike accidents are over played by the low life press unlike car accidents and that does not help the cause one of my bikes has a close ratio gear box ,slipper clutch and race suspension inc a wsbk spec rear swing arm and the best brakes and electronics possible and i ride it with the respect that it deserves as i know that it is a wild bit of kit that could easily kill me and also that it cost me a huge amount of money and even more to repair it if i trashed it.
i have been riding for 20 years and have vast road and circuit experience in both bikes and cars and spend a lot of time on the road and see some horror sights with cars pulling out on bikes and just not noticing them i have always belived that part of the car test should be that you have to take in some form or other training to do with bikes.

I agree with some of your sentiment GSX, and think that the car test should be made harder and new young drivers have power restrictions put on the vehicle they are entitled to drive.
Bikers are a vulnerable minority, I can’t say my youth was not without incident and looking back it was my young impetuous nature that was the cause. That led me to take up bike racing which I did on for many years, finally ending up on a GP 250 machine.
I hope that any youngsters reading this can take on board that a there are some serious motorists out here, and the age and experience can be learned from, and that we are not all killjoys.

The usual lively debate between GSXRRRSP and Walter. As both a car driver and a biker I can see both points of view. Irrelevant in the context of this particular crash though: no bikes were involved. I understand from one of the drivers caught up in this that it was caused by a reckless overtaking attempt by a car, the HGV coming from the opposite direction swerved to avoid a head-on impact and overturned into the hedge. Judging by the large area of flattened Somerset countryside all involved must consider themselves lucky to come out of it largely uninjured.

GSX etc just achieved a world record for the longest contribution without a single comma! I get dizzy just trying to work out where one topic ends and the next starts.
I drive a 2.5 litre car. Why do stupid little 125cc motorbikes make twice as much noise, and why do the riders have to keep revving the engines to screaming power at traffic lights?

With petrol going thru the roof we may all be getting about on horses sooner than you think, so HGV's CUV's, SUV's, 100 mile bikes, etc.,are a moot point.
Oh well the roses will look good.
