Town hosts Legion parade

WILTSHIRE County Royal British Legion is holding a parade and re-dedication service in Trowbridge on Sunday June 1.

Every year the county organisation hold the event and this year Trowbridge has been chosen to host it.

All branches of The Royal British Legion in Wiltshire have been invited to attend with their Standards and supporters and march in the parade.

A contingent from Somerset Royal British Legion is also attending to parade its County Standard.

Because of some planned roadworks in Castle Street, the parade will take a slightly varied route from that normally used in November on Remembrance Sunday.

The parade will march from the Town Hall in Market Street at 2.30pm and will proceed down Fore Street through the pedestrian precinct and turn right into Manver Street against the flow of traffic.

It will then follow the usual route along Church Street to arrive at St James' Parish Church in time for the Rededication Service at 3pm.

Following the Service at about 4pm the Union Flag, the Wiltshire County Standards and the Somerset County Standard will be paraded in the churchyard, with other Standards forming a guard of honour.

The parade will then march off along Church Street and Silver Street and then into Market Street where the Wiltshire County President, General Sir Jack Deverell KCB OBE, will take the salute.

The Parade will then turn left into Castle Street and then into St Stephen's Place before being dismissed by the County Parade Marshal Brian Mitchell.
