Schools set up French connection
Pupils promote their link with France
Pupils promote their link with France

SIX west Wiltshire primary schools have formed a learning link with schools in France.

The Trowbridge schools sent teachers out to visit educational establishments in the Loire Valley, known as the Cradle of France.

Primary schools at Hilperton, Staverton, The Mead, Paxcroft, Newtown and The Grove all took part in the scheme, which has resulted in a three year Anglo-French agreement.

Children in the different schools have already exchanged letters and pictures.

They plan to exchange songs, information about the school day as well as finding out about each other's pets and hobbies.

Schools are holding French breakfasts, setting up café role-play areas to practise their French and putting up interactive displays.

Ruth Farrell, headteacher at the Hilperton school, said: "It's really important that children know about the wider world.

"This project will make it real and hopefully fun too.

"We have lots of exciting plans, starting with making a book of pictures of a bear dressed in our school uniform around the school grounds.

"We will send the bear to our partner school in France, and they will do the same.

"We're very much looking forward to learning more about school life in France and finding out about the differences as well as the similarities.

"The Loire Valley is one of the most beautiful areas of France so we couldn't have picked a better partner region."

The schools are linked up with six schools near Tours, the capital of the Loire region, and is located on the river Loire in central France.

The project to bring the schools together was funded by the British Council on behalf of the Department for Children, Schools and Families under the Anglo-French Educational Agreement.

The Anglo-French Strategic Partnership is being led by The International Learning and Research Centre, Oldland Common, Bristol, in partnership with the Académie d'Indre et Loire.
