A PREP school in Trowbridge has been learning how to reduce its carbon footprint with help from a multinational company.

Pupils from the Roundstone Prepatory School received the Green 2020 environmental award for making changes at school and at home that will help the environment.

The company, which began in Trowbridge, awarded pupils that thought of ways the school could improve its impact on the environment, with some ideas being implemented right away.

An energy monitor from each class will be on the look out for lights and computer equipment that could be switched off, as well as windows and doors that could be shut to keep in heat.

Year 3 is the first to do this, with other classes following shortly. The changes could potentially save the school £1,000 in energy bills every year.

Philip Emfley, director and chief operating officer of Green 2020, was on hand to present the awards.

"The best way of getting the school to change is to get the children involved" Mr Emfley said.

"The children are the ones that will make the difference in the future."

Part of the scheme saw the company calculate the school's current carbon footprint, and they will return next year to see if it has decreased thanks to the changes thought up by the children.
