THE victim of a hit and run has spoken of the kindness shown to her by passing strangers.
Dawn Galpin, 49, needed stitches to her head and suffered a badly swollen foot after a car hit her bike on the B3099 towards the A36 near Dilton Marsh on Tuesday at around 7.30pm.
Mrs Galpin who works in town development and on reception at Trowbridge Town Council, said: "For that one person that hit me, there were ten more who stopped and waited with me for the ambulance. They were so kind.

"I don't like football which was on the TV and it was such a nice evening that I thought I would go out for a bike ride.
"I don't remember that much about it and I think I was knocked out for a bit.
"That road is so dangerous anyway, but these terrible things do happen. I just wanted to highlight how many good people there are out there and how kind everyone was after the accident."
Mrs Galpin said she remembers a bang, but then little else after that. After being rushed to the Royal United Hospital in Bath, she was released a few hours later after receiving stitches.
She said: "They cut my jogging trousers off, and then sent me home in a hospital blanket later that night. I am covered in bruises, but luckily nothing was broken. I am just thankful that there are so many good people out there. I don't want one person to give people in general a bad name.
"Of all the people that stopped there was a girl there and I asked her if she would stay with me until the ambulance came, and she did."
Police said the car involved in the crash is believed to be a small silver Citroen or Peugeot. Its wing mirror was damaged in the incident and was left at the scene as the driver sped off before checking how Mrs Galpin was.
Anyone with information should contact the Central Roads Policing Unit at Chippenham police station on 0845 408 7000.

I don't condone this one bit, but roads are made for vehicles and vehicles only.
Cyclists don't pay any raod tax whatsoever so why are they allowed on the road in the first place??
This has always had my mind boggling.

This has always had my mind boggling. [/quote] Bicycles [italic]are[/italic] vehicles and pay the same amount of "road tax" as any other zero emission vehicle.
Roads are for all vehicles - motor vehicles, bicycles, horses etc. Cyclists have more of a right to the road than a motor car, in fact - your right to drive on the road can be taken away, your right to ride a bicycle on it can not.
Why do you think that only vehicles which are taxed on their emissions should be able to use the roads? (You might want to reference the fact that vehicle tax does not pay for road construction or maintenance in your answer)
Your implication that a 49 year old woman deserved to be knocked down simply for riding her bicycle on a public road should make you ask one or two questions about your own life...

Having read a few of Alan's moronic comments before, just who [italic]should[/italic] be allowed on our roads according to the Gospel of Alan?

Alan you d**k you need to get your facts together, as Trowbridge said, car drivers show little or no concern for cyclists i've been hit before by a driver, lucky for me however the person was nice enough to stop

There are plenty of adults out there too that wouldn't have the decency to stop if they hit someone.

I'd lay a penny to a pound it was a young male and the reason they didn't stop was because he had no insurance or license.

I think he is really an agitator sent from the planet Zork to stir up trouble among earthlings.
