CONCERNED residents have complained to police about the number of HGV lorries coming through their village.
People living in Edington raised the problem at the annual meeting of the parish council earlier this week and put the blame on satellite navigation systems.
PC Mike Johnson from Westbury was told about the increase in HGVs during a lively discussion which also included concerns about other traffic issues in the village.

A record attendance of more than 70 people turned up for the meeting which started with the official opening of the new car park at the parish hall.
This project was jointly funded by the Parish Council and the Parish Hall Management Committee and it has created spaces for 15 cars.

Well said Disgusted. These people complaining don't mind jamming up other peoples roads with their rust heaps but don't want other peoples traffic. Stuff 'em, let the selfish sods suffer.

Its easy to say its due to sat navs, but where is the concrete proof?
Secondly, if they are going through Edington, what about villagers in Bratton and Erlestoke? Are they complaining?
Sat navs are brilliant inventions. They're quite cheap to buy and I bet people in Edington own them and drive through remote villages that they would not have gone through before?

Maybe Edington is some sort of Utopia which can never have or need HGV's to go there?

The level of traffic along the B3098 between Westbury and West Lavington (through Edington) has definitely increased over recent years, not least because it has become a real alternative route to Salisbury avoiding all the 30 and 40 mph signs and generally slow and difficult-to-overtak
e traffic on the A36.
I can't say I've seen proportionally more or less HGVs on the B3098 as I can't recall seeing any at all. The B3098 through Edington is no worse than the A350 through parts of Westbury in terms of bends and humps and I'm absolutely sure that the level of HGVs is negligeable anyway.
Perhaps the villagers of Edington should get back to the serious topic of saving their toads again this year, when they try to cross the B3098.

Surely at the end of the day it really doesn't matter where the hell you live in Wiltshire, we have the most God awful roads in the bloody country. HGV or otherwise the roads through our villages are just not capable of taking that kind of traffic.
And what I hear you ask does the government do about it - sod all.
They mearly tell you 'Well we instruct the local government to solve these problems'
And what they don't say is 'but we will not give you the cash to do it - screw it out of the idiots who live there!

I reckon HGV drivers are right up there with child molesters and granny-muggers
