Horse riders set off on the charity event on Saturday
A SPONSORED horse ride was held on Saturday in the memory of a local woman who had a mystery illness.
Vivian Dyke of Heddington Close, Trowbridge, lost the use of her arms in 2006 and doctors were unable to diagnose her condition.
She was then diagnosed with lung cancer in February and died on April 6 aged 64.
The horse ride was organised by her former carer Dawn York, 49, of Sandlewood Road, Westbury, to raise money for the Royal Mineral Hospital in Bath, which had cared for Mrs Dyke.
Mrs York said: "It was raining and I was very apprehensive that people wouldn't be able to make it, but there were eleven riders in all and I was really chuffed.
"Everyone that turned up had dressed their horses which was great.

"We don't know how much we have raised yet but I know that a couple of the riders have raised £50 each, so it should be over £300 overall. I have asked everyone to hand their money in by the end of the month.
"The oldest rider there was a lady who was 61-years-old. She came up from Taunton for the event and had knitted all of her horse's wear."
The ride started at the Kicking Donkey in Brokerswood at 11pm and then went up to Southwick, across to Hoopers Pool and then back down to Rudge.
Mrs York's husband Steven York, 43, is organising a cycle ride from Westbury to Weymouth on July 17, 2008, to continue the fundraising. If anyone can help with fundraising call Mr and Mrs York on (01373) 824155.
