Not a fairytale

2:35pm Thursday 17th April 2008

ANOTHER fine mess our council leaders are taking us to.

I live in a block of 58 flats/apartments. When our big bins were emptied every week there was little or no problems, as with the many other flat/apartment complexes in Trowbridge. Recently the collection went to once a fortnight, now the problems are starting.

Black bags not in the overloaded bins are left with stickers on saying why they will not be collected, then the rats and seagulls get at them, the rats are frightening people who want to take a bag of rubbish out in the evening. Rats breed very fast and bring diseases.

The council in their wisdom sent every household here a letter telling us to recycle more, which I agree should be done. However the council should remember that 'You can take a horse to the water but you cannot make him drink'.

Now that they have employed a bin snooper' are the council going to advertise for 'The Pied Piper Of Hamlin'. The money spent on these superfluous positions could go a long way towards having black bins emptied every week all over west Wilts. Also an epidemic caused by disease spread by rats is going to cost the council a lot more, as well as putting more of a drain on our already depleted health services.

We should all be looking at whether the Human Rights bill would help us sue our council.

JOHN WAYMAN, Trowbridge
