HAVING read the article in your paper in regard to implementing double yellow lines along the length of Laverton Road and others in the immediate vicinity, I would like to point out that if we are expected to park in our own driveways, those of us who have steep driveways are at serious risk of being involved in an accident.
To enter my driveway I have to position my car quite precisely and at 90 degrees to the main road. This puts all of us at risk when trying to either pull in or out of our driveways, we are at huge risk of being hit by a vehicle using the road. In my case the risk is tripled as I live on the corner of Leighton Road North, and traffic flows down that road and up and down Laverton Road.
If you take away the parked cars in all areas all that will happen is that speed will increase. The serious possibility of a pedestrian being run over is very worrying, even more so if one is reversing down the drive. There are no dropped kerbs at the bottom of Leighton Road North, consequently it makes life very dangerous for mums with prams and young children and nearly impossible for any one in a wheelchair.
Rather than forcing these regulations on us and turning our roads into a rat run, the council should accept responsibility for failing to provide proper infrastructure to support all the developments that have happened in the last few years.
