Why no ads?

I HAD a wonderful night out last Friday when my Dad and I went to see Nashville Nights and Dixie Days at the Civic Hall.

Unfortunately, there were only about 50 of us (if that) in the audience and while I imagine that country and western probably doesn't have a big following in Trowbridge it appeared that the main reason for the scarcity of fans was, in fact, the almost complete lack of advertising.

Most of us there had only found out about the show a few days in advance.

Trowbridge Civic Hall is a great venue and we have been to several events there, all of which we found out about by luck. May I suggest that advertising is needed in The Shires and Castle Place and in Fore Street, and that details of forthcoming events are displayed on the doors of the hall itself. I understand that the Tourist Information Centre has details of events but it is unlikely to be found by anyone not familiar with the town.

In fact, when I first came to Trowbridge the dear lady in the Tourist Information Centre gave me directions to the town swimming pool, which I then spent an hour looking for until she remembered that the new Tesco store had been built on top of it months earlier! Hopefully things have improved since then, but obviously not in time to stop the brief look of disbelief and disappointment that crossed the face of Neil Sands as he led his band onto the stage on Friday night.
