I watched from the window of my terraced cottage today, and saw a traffic warden slap a parking ticket on each car in the two-hour parking space outside.
This two-hour restriction has been in place for many years, but when the police were in charge there was never a sign of a parking attendant - but now everything is under the control of West Wiltshire Council there has been an attendant round regularly.
It is absolutely ludicrous that the council has not allowed Residents' Parking in an area where many of the houses have no drives or garages and very limited parking space.
And what happens when one of us has workmen working on our property?
When I lived in London, it was pretty universal for all residents in areas with parking problems to be able to obtain Residents Parking Permits, and also to be able to buy temporary parking facilities for visiting workmen and a limited number of visitors.
Why has West Wiltshire refused to allow this? I am not a car owner, but I certainly have workmen in from time to time and I well understand the anger and frustration of fellow neighbours who do own cars.
It's a pity the council doesn't share the same commitment to providing more pedestrian crossings in our town as it does for issuing hapless residents parking tickets outside their own properties.
