Youngsters bouncing with joy at medal haul

TRAMPOLINING: FOURTEEN member of the Evolution trampoline club squad travelled to Taunton for the first grading competition of the season.

With many rule changes for the year all were expecting a tough competition.

The day started off well, with Ami West competing in her first grade five event. After completing two solid routines she walked away with the bronze medal.

In the grade four competition Chloe Hendy and Anna Bennett competed in the under 17 age group. Anna was first up and performed well and completed both routines, giving her a place in the final.

Next up was Chloe Hendy who bounced superbly to go into the final in first place by 0.9. After a fantastic final routine Chloe widened the gap to 3.4 to storm away with the gold medal.

Gavin Fullick was the next to compete, in the under 17s boys' event, and again a great performance took him into first place and he won the club's second gold medal for the day.

The over 17s category went well, with Nic Zeal, Simon Baxter and Julie Wilson all bouncing well. Julie managed to take third place, Simon also finished third in the male competition and Nic, in her first grading competition, fifth in the girls' competition.

Last to go in the grade four was Jo Candow, who performed well in her first grade four event to come fifth.

The final grade of the day was grade three. Alex Brown competed first in the under 11s category and performed three good solid routines to get into first place.

Corrina Chimel competed in her first grade three event and took seventh place.

Finally the over 17s group competed, Tara McNally and Gemma Nicholson in the girls' event and JJ Shaw and Pete Cracknell in the boys' event. All bounced well. Tara placed sixth, Pete fourth, JJ took third and Gemma out performed herself to take first place, giving the club a total of eight medals, four golds, one silver and three bronze.

Coaches Sarah Hunt, Lorraine Brown and Jo Skeates said that they were extremely pleased with the results.

Nicky Allen and Graham Brown volunteered to judge under the new rules and Janet Candow and Alex Bedford for officiating.
