First time success
TRAMPOLINING: A GROUP of 23 Evolution Trampoline Club competitors took part in the latest event in the grade 3/4/5 competition season at the Chippenham Olympiad.
It was the first competition at this level for several of the members. First to go were the grade five competitors. All competed well, especially first timers Connor Summer (1st), Taylor Burge (12th), Ben Hames (2nd), Maddy Heywood (9th), Gemma Heywood (7th), Ruddi McFarlane (5th) and George Anthony (6th).
The under 15 girls' team of Gemma Heywood, Maddy Heywood and Holly Smith also took the gold medal. Other grade five competitors who competed very well were Amy Chalmers (17th), Tristan Buckland (3rd) and Holly Smith (5th).
Next to go were the grade four competitors. All had competed in gradings before so some were hoping to qualify to the next level. After a stunning first routine Chloe Hendy looked in a good position to qualify with ease. She matched the first routine with an equally stunning second routine to qualify with four whole marks to spare, something that this season has been totally unheard of.
With emotions running high and a small mistake in the final round Chloe came away with the silver medal but more importantly the qualification to grade three. Simon Baxter also performed a great first round, putting him in easy reach of qualification. The second round went according to plan and left him with both qualification and the silver medal.
Nic Zeal had high hopes of qualification and achieved the silver medal and qualification to grade three. The over 17 girls' team of Julie Wilson, Lauren Skeates and Nic Zeal also took the gold medal.
Other results of note were Gavin Fullick (1st), Kathryn Arnold (5th), Hannah Trimby (9th), Jo Candow (9th), Amy West (10th), Julie Wilson (3rd) and Lauren Skeates, back from recent knee surgery, (6th). The final group of the day were the grade three competitors.
After such a successful day the morale was riding quite high. Corrina Chmiel and Laura Kendrick bounced well in the under 13 girls' event, but after a mistake each they took sixth and fifth place respectively.
Miikee Selmes was the last of the Evolution competitors to compete. After a good solid set he had his sights set on qualification to grade two. His nerve held for the second round and he went on to not only qualify but to take the silver medal.
Head coach Sarah Hunt said: "We are really proud of what the children achieved. All worked hard and did their best in competition. We are especially pleased to have so many new competitors taking part, making our entry the largest in the whole South West of England.
"We look forward to bigger and better things for all involved and we would like to thank all of the parents and coaches who helped out on the day."
