BLUEBIRDS goalkeeper Ben John is hoping to have his team singing a happy tune again if Chippenham Town notch up another positive result at Stourbridge this weekend.

Since moving to Hardenhuish Park from Cinderford Town in October, John has become the self-appointed king of coach entertainment, leading the celebrations on long away trips with the team’s karaoke machine.

The Town players have even managed to get chairman John Applegate and vice-chairman Neil Blackmore on the mic in recent weeks and John is hoping that there are plenty more sing-a-longs to come this season. He said; “When you’re winning away, you’ve got to celebrate with the lads and there’s nothing like a party on the coach.

“People think that I’m a bit of a big character and I suggested it when I first came here to get everyone firing and get that togetherness.

“We took some money out of the kitty and bought a boombox with a few tunes.

“I’m the instigator and we’ll get people up as we go – we had the chairman singing ‘My Way’ by Frank Sinatra and we’ve had the vice-chairman up too.

“Tom Knighton sung the Spice Girls for his initiation the other week.

“Adie Harris is decent and he loves a bit of Stereophonics but Toby (Osman) is the worst without doubt.

“He’s got good impressions and he thinks he’s the guy from the X Factor who does the announcements but when it comes to singing, he’s awful.”

John has three successive clean sheets under his belt and thinks that Chippenham are running a tight ship at the back.

He said: “I think we’ve got it sorted at the back and we’re working hard in training and getting consistency.

“I feel like I’m fitting in well and I’ll keep my head down and keep doing what I’m doing. That’s four clean sheets in seven – not that I’m counting or anything.”

Chippenham manager Nathan Rudge is expecting a stern test at high-flying Stourbridge this weekend.

He said: “They’re a good side with a good manager in Gary Hackett and you always expect them to be challenging for the title.

“But with the form we’re in, it’s the perfect time to go there and we’ve just got to worry about ourselves.”
