ANDY Moore finished as the top Wiltshire player in the annual Westlecot Open sponsored by Dexion that was staged last weekend at the Swindon indoor club.

The wily veteran Christie Miller player and former England triallist once again showed his liking for the Westlecot indoor green.

In 2010 he reached the final in the inaugural Westlecot Open but had to settle for runners-up spot and a £400 cheque when beaten by Danny Denison (Torquay United).

This time in the third Open staged by the Swindon club Moore battled his way through to the semi-finals before losing out to Banbury’s Mark Sykes two sets to nil. But did have the consolation of collecting £200 in prize money.

Moore who only plays indoor these days because of work commitments opened the tournament with a first round 2-0 (6-3, 10-5) win over beat Kyle Anderson from host club Westlecot.

Then he beat Kyle’s father John in round two but was taken to a tie-breaker before winning 5-7, 9-4, 2-0.

Moore came through another tie-breaker in round three against former England junior international Shaun Jones (Malvern Hills) 9-4, 2-6, 2-0.

But then took a comfortable 2-0 (8-6, 8-1) quarter-final victory over Arthur McCaughan (Folkstone) before his luck ran-out in the semi-finals against Mark Sykes.

The tournament and £1000 top prize went to Welford-on-Avon’s Brian Lees who steamrollered past Sykes in the final 7-2, 10-2 with an awesome performance.
