CHIPPENHAM SUNDAY LEAGUE DIVISION TWO PREVIEW: Kings Arms seek Goatacre upset
3:00pm Friday 11th January 2013 in Sport
AFTER claiming a share of the Division Two top spot with Staverton last weekend Goatacre CC FC will need to be at their very best when they take on Kings Arms (All Cannings) this Sunday or their stay at the top could be a brief one.
Goatacre won the reverse fixture 4-0 and will be favourites to claim a sixth successive win, but having lost just once in their last eight games Kings Arms should give their hosts a real test of their title credentials.
Fresh from their first win in five games GRFC will look to build on their 3-2 success over Miller Sports when they host Somerford FC.
Tam Laidlaw’s men were beaten 5-2 when the teams met in November and it would be a surprise if Somerford weren’t to claim a fourth straight win over their hosts.
Miller Sports find themselves in the bottom two ahead of their meeting with Chippenham West End and unless they can conjure up something a little bit special, Mike Stevens side are likely to remain their for another week at least.
However with the honours shared last term there is a chance that Miller may just sneak a draw from the game at the Beeches.
Sutton Benger arrested their five match winless run with a victory over basement side Wren FC last Sunday, but the villagers know that Southwick Wanderers, who have already beaten them 5-3 this term, will prove harder to beat.
It is likely to be a case of David versus Goliath at Beversbrook, Calne where bottom of the table Wren FC, who have not won in 11, host joint leaders Staverton, who will be hoping to improve their goals for tally as they look to take over pole position from Goatacre.
Staverton ought to better the 6-0 win they had in the reverse fixture and if their strikers are on form could bag double figures to claim their ninth win of the season.
