BATH are through to the last eight of the Amlin Challenge Cup after edging out French side Agen at the Rec.

The home side recorded their 14th consecutive win in the competition as fly-half Tom Heathcote's boot proved crucial.

Victory in their final match at home to Bucharest Wolves next week should ensure Bath avoid any of the three sides dropping down from the Heineken Cup at the quarter final stage.

Heathcote's two second-half penalties proved enough as he and his opposite number Raphael Lagarde swapped early penalties .

Wales prop Paul James scored a try for the home side to give them a 13-9 lead at half-time.

Agen piled on the pressure at the start of the second half despite losing their playmaker Lagarde to a yellow card but Heathcote landed his second penalty to push them seven points clear.

Agen drew level as number eight Uelenitoni Fono scored try just before the hour mark, but Heathcote's penalty six minutes later wrapped up the win.
