CHIPPENHAM SUNDAY LEAGUE DIVISION ONE: Brilliant Prestige avenge Corsham mauling
2:00pm Monday 14th January 2013 in Sport
THE only fixture in the S.K. Fruits Limited, Chippenham Sunday League, Premier Division between Westbury Rangers and FC Colerne which was scheduled for Meadow Lane, Westbury was postponed due to the hosts' pitch being one of many that was still unplayable following the downpour of the previous 48 hours.
The teams are set to meet in the reverse clash this coming Sunday.
A month after they suffered a 16-0 mauling at the hands of Corsham United, Steve Warner took his Prestige Bodyworks side to Leafy Lane for the reverse fixture.
For the first time in many weeks he could boast a full-strength side and the hosts, who would have gone top of the Division One table had they won, saw their promotion hopes dealt a blow as Prestige upset the formbook with a 3-1 win.
Prestige, who were winless in five and had not scored in their last three outings, gave a debut to keeper Ben Pratt and the stopper, who was playing his first game for two years, was instrumental in the win with a number of outstanding saves after James Hernandez had beaten him early on to give Corsham the lead.
Prestige battled their way back into the game and drew level just before the interval. Great work from Sam Pring saw him delay his cross to James Pope who arrived at the far post to head home from four yards and make it one-apiece.
Prestige got their noses in front on 65 minutes. A long ball out from defence led to a mix-up in the Corsham defence and Zak Klukowski never gave up on a weak header back to goal and chased down the ball to fire in for 2-1.
With five minutes remaining, Prestige wrapped up a deserved win. Great interplay in midfield led to Pring playing in Tom Bentley who held up the ball before firing past the keeper to claim his first of the season and seal victory for the visitors.
Bromham (Sunday) 2 North Star A 1
NORTH Star A were left still looking for their first win of the season as their trip to fellow relegation battlers Bromham (Sunday) ended in a 2-1 win for the home side.
Star, who went into the game looking for their first win in nine outings, made a solid start and had chances to take a first-half lead.
But those chances went begging as Bromham’s defence held firm to keep the score line goalless after 45 minutes.
The first goal was always going to be crucial and within a minute of the restart Bromham broke the deadlock and gained the upper hand through a fine finish from Freddie Paget.
Paget was on target again on 60 minutes to double Bromham’s lead.
North Star never gave up and when Reece Allison netted in the 70th minute it was game on.
But the hosts managed to shut up shop and battened down the hatches to see out time and claim two very much needed points in their battle to beat the drop.
