CHIPPENHAM SUNDAY LEAGUE DIVISION ONE: Wind helps Castle blow Prestige away

IN THE only fixture that survived the rain in Division One, Prestige Bodyworks hosted a Castle FC side who they had beaten 7-0 on the opening day of the season.

But the visitors to Buckley Barracks never read the script as they avenged their earlier loss which saw them take advantage of the blustery conditions to claim a 6-1 win.

The game was never going to be a classic as both sides had to battle it out in awful footballing conditions.

Both sides were struggling to deal with the wind and it was Prestige who opened the scoring when Jonny Grogan scored from the edge of the area after a quick short corner.

The game never developed into any sort of rhythm and with literally the last kick of the half Dan Sloan got on the end of a great delivery from Jack Hopper to get his side on level terms.

The wind settled down slightly after the break and Castle struck five minutes in when Jack Fisher’s hard work paid off as he closed down Prestige’s defence and went one-on-one with the keeper and slotted coolly into the bottom corner.

Castle got their third of the morning when debutant Hopper opened his account with another nice finish.

The game was finally killed off 20 minutes from time when after breaking the offside trap Hopper unselfishly squared the ball only for Dan Clements to put the ball into his own net.

Number five of the morning saw Doug Dickson score the goal of the game when he fired in a thunderous drive from 25 yards into the top corner.

Substitute Ben House rounded off the scoring and completed his side's 6-1 victory when he hit a first-time volley which nestled into the bottom corner from some good work down the right hand side from Dickson.
