DARREN Perrin reckons that the opportunity to add to his Frome Town squad was one of the few positives from his side’s recent enforced break from action.
The Robins have not been in action since their goalless draw as Gosport Borough on January 15, with both Tuesday night’s trip to AFC Totton and last weekend’s game at home to Cambridge City falling foul of the winter weather.
But Perrin has had time to snap up 22-year-old former Cardiff City trainee Sam Wade, son of former Swindon Town striker Bryan.
Perrin is also hoping to complete another signing next week and says that there are both positives and negatives to the postponement of league fixtures.
“We’re unbeaten in two-and-a-half weeks, so we’re on a good run,” joked the Frome manager.
“But there positive points and negative points to having breaks like this.
“We’ve signed Sam Wade, who’s small and quick and can play on the wing, in the hole and up front for us.
“On the one hand, Alex Lapham’s is now just two or three weeks away from being back but Dean Evans is still waiting to complete the second game of his two-match suspension.
“We’ve had to be smart when it comes to training.
“When we had five or six inches of snow, the players did a bit of running in it, and that was quite a sight to see, but you have to be careful making lads come out to training when it’s difficult to get home.
“We’ve got the studio at Frome where people do a bit of aerobics and Zumba dancing so we had a session of that on Saturday and I think some of them worked harder than they do in a normal session.”
Frome are hoping to take on Banbury United in the Evo-Stik League Southern Premier Division tomorrow.
Meanwhile, their Red Insure Cup quarter-final at home to Sholing has been confirmed for next Wednesday (7.45pm).
The match had been re-arranged for next Thursday evening (kick-off 7.45pm), because the visitors’ fixture pile-up was due to see them play Havant & Waterlooville in the Hampshire Senior Cup the evening before.
But it has now reverted to its original date.
