CHIPPENHAM SUNDAY LEAGUE DIVISION THREE: Calne rivals meet at Beversbrook
3:00pm Friday 1st February 2013 in Sport
IT MAY not be the most eye catching fixture in Division Three this weekend but the Calne derby between rivals Bremhill View Boys and Talbot FC is sure to be a red-blooded affair.
Bremhill, who picked up their first win of the season last time out, will look to avenge their 3-2 defeat at the hands of Vic Long’s side from earlier in the season.
In what is likely to be a fiercely-contested battle Talbot will be favourites to take the points and leave their hosts in the relegation zone, but with local pride at stake Bremhill will be up for the game and may just scrap their way to a draw.
Leaders Corsham Park Rangers are on a six-match winning run and they know if they are to maintain their interest in the battle for promotion they can’t really afford to drop any more points this season.
That is a big ask for Tim Spear’s side as next up is Christian Malford.
Rangers may have beaten Malford 8-2 previously and will be odds on to complete a double but the villagers shouldn’t be written off as they have been playing well of late and are one side Rangers won’t look forward to playing.
FC Buscots put their 100 per cent record on the line at home to Pack Horse Rangers and unless the visitors have anything special in their locker it is hard to see them getting anything from the game.
Buscots have already beaten them 4-2 this term and the Nurstead Road club should have few problems in seeing off their guests to pick up win number 11 of the campaign.
Should Fortune Inn’s fixture with Pig & Whistle United A get the green light at Stanley Park, it will only be an eighth game of the season for Budge Hylands' side and only the second on home soil.
Incredibly it will be the second time the sides have met this term and it was United who won the first meeting 3-0.
But since that success in early September Richard Allen’s side have not won in eight attempts and that winless run should be extended as Fortune are expected to avenge their earlier loss.
PSC Galaxy, who are down in third remain very much in the promotion race and a visit from North Star B to their Northbrook base should yield another two points for Pete Huntley’s side.
Galaxy won the reverse fixture 6-0 and the hosts should be in the goals again as the Star under manager Lee Lovelock are undergoing a rebuilding process and this game has possibly come too early for his new-look side.
