TROWBRIDGE & DISTRICT LEAGUE DIVISION ONE: Little heads Bradford to victory
2:00pm Monday 4th February 2013 in Sport
BOTH Freshford United and Warminster Town Reserves are having to play catch-up as the sides have managed just 15 league games between them since the start of the season.
Warminster have played seven, while Freshford, after their 4-0 win at Brown’s Park, remain very much in the hunt to be crowned Trowbridge Windows & Conservatories sponsored-Trowbridge League Division One champions.
Warminster, who this season have given a good account of themselves against the top three teams in the division, were given a lesson by their hosts in what the visitors' manager Andy McFarren described as a game of men versus boys.
For Hughie Fulton’s Freshford, it gave them the perfect opportunity shake off the cobwebs as they look to get their title challenge up and running.
Jamie Olding put Freshford ahead and their lead were doubled by Ryan Mortimer to put them 2-0 up at half time.
A second from Olding made it 3-0 and when Steve Roddy netted his 15th goal of the season from just five games he completed the afternoon’s scoring to give the hosts a much needed victory.
Trowbridge Wanderers 1 Bradford United 2
NOT having played since early November, Jake Waymen’s Trowbridge Wanderers side were desperate for a return to action, as were their opponents Bradford United, whose last outing back in the middle of December saw them beat title hopefuls Westbury United Reserves 3-0.
Defending champions Trowbridge, who have played six games to date, suffered an 8-5 defeat when the sides met in the reverse game in September and they were longing to avenge that loss.
But despite taking a first-half lead and having the better of what was a dull game suffered a cruel 2-1 defeat as a late goal saw Bradford complete a smash and grab raid to claim a 2-1 win.
A Jason Hughes goal gave Wanderers their half time advantage.
Jonny Eamer dragged Bradford back on level terms and Anthony Ottaviano’s side wrapped up their third win of the campaign to complete a double over their hosts when Phil Little headed in a Richie Bliha free-kick in the final few minutes.
MATCH OFF: North Bradley v Seend United.
