TOOLSTATION LEAGUE FIRST DIVISION: Warminster Town 3 Calne Town 1
9:52am Monday 11th February 2013 in Sport
WARMINSTER Town brought their eleven-match winless run to an end by chucking a spanner in the works of county rivals Calne Town's promotion challenge.
Calne should have taken the lead as early as the third minute when a Dan Lardner strike from close range sailed over the bar.
And just three minutes later, Warminster went ahead when Lewis Graham collected the ball and shot low past Calne’s emergency keeper Rob Pocock.
Ten minutes later, the visitors' pressure should have paid off once more but this time it was James Lye who shot over the bar from 18 yards then headed the ball straight to the opposing keeper in the 22nd minute.
Continuous good passing football eventually paid off in the 25th minute when Calne were awarded a free-kick following another foul from the hosts on Tyler Sheppard, with Lye connecting with Lardner's delivery to equalise.
But Warminster hit back almost straight away and went up the other end of the field two minutes after the equaliser, with Graham netting his second.
The Lilywhites then restarted the game, lost possession and went further behind within 60 seconds when Beau Blakeman's cross from the right saw the ball finish up in the back of the net.
Adam Collington's Warminster are at home to Shrewton United next weekend while Anthony Brown's Calne are at Almondsbury UWE on Tuesday evening.
