BOWLS: Miller into triples national final
1:25pm Saturday 16th February 2013 in Sport
CHRISTIE MILLER trio of Chris Easton, Nigel Price and skip Andy Moore have reached today’s final in the Men’s Over 50 Triples at the national indoor bowls championships being held at Northampton, writes DAVE EATON.
They booked their place in the last two last night (Friday) with a hard fought 13-12 semi-final victory over the Slade (Buckingham) team of Clive Green, Roger Wright and Don Savage.
Moore’s trio trailed for most of the sem-final against Slade but grabbed their one shot glory on the 19th and extra end.
They were 6-1 down at five ends, 9-4 adrift at ten and were facing defeat as they trailed 12-8 at 15.
But the Christie Miller team hauled themselves back into the match winning the last three ends and scoring four shots to tie the match at 12-12 and force an extra end which they duly won.
Chris Easton, 61, appearing in the later stages of the national championships for the first time and the vastly experienced duo of Nigel Price and Andy Moore reached Northampton by beating Bristol in the Area 30 Over 50s Triples final and followed it up with an 18-15 success over Area 29 champions Taunton Deane in the inter-area final to book a spot in the last 16 of the competition.
Moore’s men opened on Thursday evening with a comprehensive 24-13 victory over Beccles (Suffolk). They made a flying start leading 7-2 at five ends and never looked back roaring away to a comfortable win.
Then in the quarter-finals yesterday morning against another Suffolk side, Risbygate, Bury St Edmunds, they were tied 13-13 at ten ends before powering away to a 25-13 victory to set-up the nailbiting but successful semi-final win over Slade (Buckingham).
In today’s Mens Over 50 Triples final Christie Miller will face the Folkstone (Kent) trio of Roger Herridge, Colin Elson and former England international Gordon Charlton (1.30pm).
