CHIPPENHAM SUNDAY LEAGUE DIVISION TWO PREVIEW: West End out to derail Staverton
4:00pm Friday 22nd February 2013 in Sport
HAVING seen their closest challengers suffer a shock loss last weekend, Division Two leaders Staverton will be hoping that they can make them most of Goatacre's slip-up against Somerford.
Aaron Latchem’s side, who claimed a brilliant win over White Horse a week ago, can look forward to another tricky game at Chippenham West End, who despite being down in fifth spot are in the mix for a top two placing.
The teams drew 3-3 in September and the return fixture is a good bet to see the honours shared for a second time.
Southwick Wanderers have come into some form in the last two weeks with victories over relegation battlers Wren FC and Miller Sports.
This week they entertain Kings Arms (All Cannings), who should give them a much stiffer challenge than their previous two opponents.
This will be the first time the sides have met and although they haven’t won in six, Kings Arms are tipped for success in this game.
Clive Black’s White Horse side take on Sutton Benger for a second time this season.
If the game is half as entertaining as the first meeting, that saw White Horse win 6-5 after coming back from 4-0 down, it should be a thriller.
Benger have managed just one win in eight games and with the hosts having a much tighter defence than they did at the time of the first game they should produce another thoroughbred performance to get promotion hope back on track.
Goatacre CC FC slipped down from joint top spot to third place after their stunning 7-0 loss against Somerford last weekend, but with basement side Wren FC next up for the cricketers, you fear for Carl Murray’s side.
Wren had an 11-0 loss when the teams last met and could be hit for double figures again as Goatacre look to boost their goals for tally with what should be another convincing win.
