RUGBY: Westbury 39 Oakmedians 2nd 21

WESTBURY put further daylight between themselves and the Dorset & Wilts One South strugglers with a bonus-point success on Saturday.

Coming off the back of victory over local rivals Warminster, Westbury were caught out and found themselves seven points down after three minutes.

They hit back with an unconverted try from Kieran McEntegart, who touched down after fine handling from the back line.

On 22 minutes McEntegart booted a penalty to give his side the lead 8-7, but another lapse allowed Oaks a second converted score for a half-time lead.

Coach Michael Bamsey’s strong half-time words had the desired effect on the home side as Darren Fuller floated the ball out to debutant winger Elliot Waller, who powered through three defenders to touch down.

Four minutes later, with the scrum dominant, veteran number eight Gareth Vaughan picked up and powered over from five metres, McEntegart adding the extras.

The bonus point try came courtesy of the backs, outside centre Nathan Brown, going over and Chris Vaughan converting.

Vaughan’s break and pass sent replacement wing Nathan Hymas over before second row James Wild trundled under the posts from 20 metres and Vaughan converted.

Oaks hit back with a late consolation.
