CHIPPENHAM SUNDAY LEAGUE DIVISION ONE: Star claim first win of the season

NORH Star A claimed their first win of the season in Division One.#

Their 4-2 victory at Beversbrook over Biddestone White Horse came a week after the pair saw their meeting at Yatton Road abandoned after 57 minutes with Star winning 5-3 following an incident which left Biddestone’s Tom Lye with a broken jaw.

Both teams put last weeks game behind them and played out a sporting match that was a credit to both sets of players.

Paul Green put North Star ahead but he saw his goal wiped out by Dan King who scored from the penalty spot to make it 1-1.  Matt Law regained the lead for North Star before half time.

Biddestone fashioned a second equaliser with Leigh Rogers drawing things level at 2-2.

Adam Walsh put Liam Westland’s side ahead for a third time and a second from Walsh sealed a first win of what has been a difficult season for the Calne based Star side who will be looking for two points from their remaining five matches to beat the drop to Division Two.

Bromham (Sunday) 0 Castle FC 7

BROMHAM (Sunday) were unable to sign off their latest Division One campaign with the victory they were looking for at home to near-neighbours Castle FC who continued their recent upturn in form with a 7-0 win over Freddie Paget’s side to extend their winning run to five matches.

Credit must go to Bromham though as they had to play the game with only 10 men, Castle sportingly supplying both linesmen.

The game was never going to be a classic and Bromham set their stall out from the start to keep the scoreline as low as possible rather than believing they can get anything out of the game.

As expected, Castle dominated possession with Bromham camped in their own half and it took 10 minutes for the scoring to be opened when after some good work Jack Bramwell scored his first of the morning with a well-taken finish from the edge of the area.

Castle got their second of the morning when Joe Unsworth was put through on goal and he slipped the ball through the Bromham keeper's legs only for Marcus Wallen to follow it up and make sure the ball hit the back of the net.

Castle’s third came when Dan Sloan neatly back-heeled a Martin Robinson effort into the back of the net from inside the six- yard box and this is how the sides went in at the break.

Number four came early in the second half, Doug Dickson continued his purple patch in front of goal when he fired in a shot from 30 yards that flew in past Bromham’s helpless keeper.

Nathan Emm then got in the goals when he picked the ball up on the left wing and drove past a Bromham defender and fired the ball into the bottom corner from just inside the area to make it 5-0.

Jack Bramwell then grabbed his brace when he had the goal at his mercy and tapped into an empty net from close range after good work again from Marcus Wallen.

Bramwell then completed his hat-trick when he got on the end of a cross from Emm to head the ball into the bottom corner to complete the scoring.

Perkins said after the game: "Credit to Bromham for getting the game played with only 10 players, I know how difficult it can be from experiences of last season, at no stage did we begin to make a joke of them and the game was played in a good spirit."
