CHIPPENHAM SUNDAY LEAGUE SUBSIDIARY CUP PREVIEW: Old Road aim for Social upset
1:00pm Friday 8th March 2013 in Sport
BIDDESTONE Social are red-hot favourites to finish top of the Subsidiary Cup Group D table.
The villagers, who have a Sunday Cup and Knockout Cup semi-final on the horizon, will book their place in the last four of the competition they won when it was last held in 2004 if they can get the better of fourth division Old Road for a second time.
Social won the reverse fixture 2-1, and although Old Road will be looking to produce an upset, the chances of that happening are slim and the top flight leaders should get the victory that will keep their hopes for silverware on four fronts very much alive.
All three sides in Group B, are locked together on two points apiece which makes AFC Melksham’s game with Corsham Park Rangers a massive one.
It is a must win for both sides if they are to keep their hopes of topping the table alive.
Corsham Park opened the competition with a 1-0 victory over Mike Rogers' side and the third division high-flyers are hoping to do the same against their top-flight opponents when they meet at Christie Miller.
The result should be another close one, but unlike the first outing Melksham should take the points on offer.
With Steeple Ashton Rangers already declared the winners of Group D, the games between Kings Arms (All Cannings) and Prestige Bodyworks is a dead rubber so both teams will be playing for pride.
First division Prestige won the reverse fixture 3-2 but they may not get the same result when they visit their second division opponents who will be confident that they can get their first points on the board even if they will count for nothing.
