TOOLSTATION LEAGUE FIRST DIVISION: Keynsham Town 4 Westbury United 0
9:00am Monday 11th March 2013 in Sport
WESTBURY saw a promising hour turn into a heavy defeat for the third match in a row as Keynsham rattled in four goals in the final half hour.
For that opening 60 minutes, the teams seemed set to share the points as they had done at Meadow Lane a few weeks earlier.
However, United’s David Whyte missed a glorious chance to equalise and Town went on to claim the win.
Gary Tugwell continued his fine recent form with a good performance at centre back to follow up equally fine games at full back and in midfield.
How the first half was goalless was something of a mystery as both sides rattled the crossbar while goalkeepers Ryan Perry and Lewis Porter made good saves.
Porter made fine saves to deny Pat Davison, Paul Ewins and Scott Brain while Ewins and Davison both struck the bar.
At the other end Perry did well to save from David Whyte and Mark Young while Young saw a header cannon off the bar and Simon Millard curled in a corner that somehow eluded every player in the six yard box.
Home substitute Wayne Pearce was brought on at half time and it was he who made the difference as Westbury seemed unable to contain him.
He set up the opening goal by playing the ball to Brain who rifled in from 20 yards on 59 minutes.
A lovely move a few minutes later saw Phil Hampson and Young combine to set up David Whyte who seemed certain to equalise but Perry did brilliantly to parry the point-blank header.
From that moment on there was only one team in it and Keynsham went 2-0 up on 71 minutes when Pearce and Ash McDowell created an opening for Davison who scored with a fine finish from the edge of the box.
The third goal came five minutes later when Rich Healey arrived to score with a composed finish after good work by McDowell and Davison and, after United’s Luke Stanley had shot a 20 yarder wide at the other end, McDowell’s pace carried him into the box where he pulled the ball back to Gromek Szymon and he blasted it past Porter to complete the rout.
Westbury: Lewis Porter, David Whyte, Pete Ayton, Luke Stanley, Gary Tugwell, Kane Scott, Simon Millard, Paul Beavers, Mark Young, Nathan Hallett, Phil Hampson.
Subs: Kieron Kiff, Matt Mead (used) Tom Whyte (unused).
