CHIPPENHAM SUNDAY LEAGUE DIVISION ONE: Castle keep promotion hopes alive

A FIFTH straight win for Tom Perkins, Castle FC side saw them move into one of the Division One automatic promotion spot.

Castle welcomed Biddestone White Horse to their home at Sands Lane, Rowde for what was their penultimate fixture of the season.

The sides met just a few weeks ago with Castle edging the game 5-3 and again this game was close however Castle ran out comfortable winners by another two-goal margin, this time a 4-2 success earned them the points.

Perkins' side were looking to continue their recent rich vain of form however they got off to a slightly nervy start giving the ball away on several occasions as Biddestone dominated early proceedings.

It was however slightly against the run of play that Castle took the lead when skipper Dan Sloan got his head on the end of a Jack Hopper mis-hit free kick and his diving header found the top corner for 1-0.

Within two minutes of the re-start Castle doubled their lead when Jack Hopper picked the ball up 30 yards out and hit an unstoppable drive down the centre of the goal that looped in over the keepers head into the back of the net and this is how the sides went in at the break.

Biddestone came out knowing the next goal would be vital and they got this when Dan King netted after Castle failed to clear the ball King had an easy finish into the bottom corner.

Castle had other ideas though and 10 minutes later Hopper got his second of the morning when he hit a low drive into the bottom corner from the edge of the area to make it 3-1.

Hopper then grabbed his hat-trick goal when he was through one-on-one and chipped the keeper from just inside the area to kill the game at 4-1.

There was time however for a Biddestone rally when Scott Fleming scored after a slight error from Castle's keeper the ball found its way in at the near post however it wasn't enough as it arrived with just two minutes remaining.

North Star A 4 FC Boroughs 8

AFTER picking up their first win of the season last weekend basement side North Star A came unstuck against FC Boroughs who after back-to-back defeats returned to winning ways with an 8-4 victory over Liam Westland’s side at Beversbrook.

North Star made the worst possible start when Kristian Trimble’s long throw deflected in off a defender to give Boroughs the lead but they weren’t ahead for long as Stuart Windsor restored parity.

Boroughs regained the lead via Sam Parker but back came North Star with Adam Walsh squaring things up at two each.

Goals from Anthony Brown, Mark Lane and Sam Jenner gave Boroughs a 5-2 interval lead.

A second from Sam Parker made it 6-2 before North Star had a mini revival with goals from Matt Law and Stuart Windsor with his second of the game reducing the arrears but that was as close as the hosts got to catching their guests as a penalty from Anthony Brown gave him his second of the match and a second from Jenner wrapped up victory for the Malmesbury-based side.
