CHIPPENHAM SUNDAY LEAGUE DIVISION THREE PREVIEW: Buscots seek to extend lead at the top
3:00pm Friday 15th March 2013 in Sport
FC Buscots will put themselves firmly in the driving seat to become third division champions if they can claim maximum points from their visit to Pig & Whistle United A, who have managed just two wins in their last 11 games while the visitors to Melksham have won all their 14 games to date.
With players away on a stag weekend, Buscots will be far from full strength but the Devizes-based side should still prove too strong for their hosts in what will be the first of two meeting in the next fortnight.
With Bremhill View Boys and Cavalier currently in the bottom two, their meeting at Beversbrook is the preverbal relegation four-pointer.
Bremhill, who have four games remaining to keep their third division status, will be relegated should they lose to Cavalier.
Basement side Cavalier have yet to win a game this season but they will fancy their chances of getting something from their first meeting of the season with Gary Marshall’s side even if it is just a point which after last weeks improved showing against Pig & Whistle is a possibility.
Christian Malford and Pack Horse Rangers should have few problems in staying away from the drop zone, which makes for an interesting game at Kington Langley.
With Malford looking for a third straight win and Pack Horse bidding for a first win in five the hosts may just take all the points on offer.
Four defeats in their last six matches has ended Fortune Inn’s hopes of claiming back-to-back promotions, but Budge Hylands side could still have a say into where the silverware will end up as they have to face three promotion hopefuls, beginning with PSC Galaxy this weekend.
Galaxy, who won the reverse fixture 3-1, find themselves down in third spot but with games in hand on both Corsham Park and Buscots they have a good chance of getting out of the division in one of the top two places.
Galaxy ought to complete a double over Fortune but at the same time they could slip up and lose at this stage of the season what would be some valuable points.
