BATH RUGBY: Forwards staying put to lay Bath’s foundations
12:00pm Friday 22nd March 2013 in Sport
Bath have tied down two of their existing England internationals after prop David Wilson and lock Dave Attwood agreeing contract extensions.
Gold said: “That’s fantastic for us. We want young, talented and English players here and, if we can, we try and get the very best in their position and Dave Wilson and Dave Attwood fill that position very well.
“England have got some outstanding second rows and I certainly think Dave falls into that category.
“His form probably wasn’t where he wanted it last year and the way he’s turned it around this year has been magnificent.
“He’s been a key player for us, week in and week out.’’ Gold added: “Dave Wilson I believe is one of the best tightheads in the world – and I believe that sincerely.
“He can go up against anybody on his day – you just have to see how hard he pushes Dan Cole in the England set-up.
“With the brand of rugby we want to play you have to set a good foundation and having good two tight forwards, who are thankfully both English, is a fantastic coup and we’re very excited they’ve agreed to stay.’’
Attwood said: “There are a lot of factors involved when you start thinking about where you are going to play your rugby and thankfully the club were interested and that suited me down to the ground.’’
