CHIPPENHAM SUNDAY LEAGUE SUBSIDIARY CUP PREVIEW: Bug favorites to make semi-finals
1:00pm Friday 22nd March 2013 in Sport
Knockout Cup finallists Bug & Spider look odds-on to make it through to the last four of the Subsidiary Cup.
Marcus Lovesey’s top flight side visit fourth division Pig & Whistle United B knowing that a high scoring win would see them top Group C ahead of local rivals Talbot FC.
Should Bug slip up this week, the sides meet again the following week where Lovesey’s men have a second chance to complete the job of reaching the semi-finals.
With Biddestone Social already confirmed as Group A winners, Division Four sides FC North Wiltshire and Old Road FC will be playing for the runners-up spot which is currently in the possession of the latter.
North Wilts will want to avenge their 4-3 loss from the start of the month but with the game of little importance to both side they may opt to use their fringe players rather than risk some of their regulars ahead of what is going to be a vital last month of fixtures as they both fight it out for a top-two finish.
Local rivals Corsham Park Rangers and Corsham United are set for a crunch meeting in Group B.
Both sides along with AFC Melksham are locked together on two points and with United having already beaten their hosts 4-1, it looks like another win for them ahead of their final game with Melksham the following week.
With everything to play for Rangers should they have a full strength side available may keep their interests alive, but they are going to have to play well to avoid another derby day defeat.
