WILTSHIRE are all but out of the MCCA Knockout Trophy after a second group defeat on Sunday.

Last year's beaten finalists slipped to a six-wicket defeat to Lincolnshire at Woodhall Spa, their poor net run rate rendering qualification for the latter stages virtually impossible, even with victories in their final two matches.

Missing skipper Joe Breet, who has suffered a serious knee injury, Tom Morton captained the side, winning the toss and choosing to bat.

A steady start of 40 for the first wicket between Ed Kilbee (36) and Richard Underdown (16) was followed by a collapse to 136-6, with only Michael Coles (34) making any impression.

A stand of 76 for the seventh wicket between Ashur Morrison (69) and Tom Bowler (30) gave the score some respectability as the innings closed at the end of the 50 overs at 224-9.

Wiltshire needed a disciplined bowling performance, but produced exactly the opposite as they leaked extras at an alarming rate.

Lincolnshire reached their target in 37.5 overs scoring 228-4 with Matt Lineker scoring an unbeaten 107.

There were a total of 59 extras, including 14 wides and 30 no balls (each no ball scoring two runs). Tom Bowler took 2-39 off his 10 overs.

Wiltshire’s next match in the competition is against Suffolk at Devizes on Sunday, May 19 (11am).
