ATHLETICS: Greene knocked out in Moscow semis
5:10pm Tuesday 13th August 2013 in Sport
DAI Greene's world 400m hurdles title defence came to an end this afternoon as the Great Britain star finished fifth in his semi-final at the IAAF World Championships in Moscow.
Welshman Greene, who is based in Melksham, failed to make the final and a shot a defending the title he won at the 2011 championships in Deagu as he crossed the line in 49.25.
The 27-year-old, who trains at the University of Bath under Malcolm Arnold, had been hounded by injury and illness in the build-up to this week's world championships.
"I just didn't have it in the tank tonight. On the warm-up track, we we were really struggling to get that first hurdle and to get in to my stride on the back straight," said Greene.
"It was harder than it should have been and I guess that if you miss a bit of training, that's what it looks like when you start competing against the top guys.
"This chance probably came a week too early for me - it was a shock to the system after not doing too much over the last few weeks."
