CHIPPENHAM SUNDAY LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION PREVIEW: Social remain the team to beat
12:00pm Friday 30th August 2013 in Sport
THE 48th campaign of the S.K. Fruits Limited Chippenham & District Sunday League gets under way at the weekend, with 52 teams challenging for honours.
In the top flight Biddestone Social, who are chasing a fourth straight title remain the team to beat.
Social, under Ashley Smith, captured a league and cup quadruple last term and will be favourites to add another league crown to their bulging trophy cabinet.
The defending champions begin the defence with a trip to newly-promoted Steeple Ashton Rangers, who would have liked an easier game to start life in the top flight.
The biggest challenge is likely to come from last season’s beaten Knockout and Subsidiary Cup beaten finalists Bug & Spider, who begin their assault for the top-flight crown by hosting FC Colerne. Both sides are under new management.
Two of the divisions newcomers are set to meet at Leafy Lane, as a struggling Corsham United sees them entertain last term's Division One and WG Parr Trophy winners Bradford Renegades, won all 16 of their league outings last term.
Newly-promoted The Castle FC start their first venture in the Premier Division with a home fixture against Semington Rovers.
Westbury Rangers probably had one of their worst-ever campaigns last term, so as they enter their 41st year they will be hoping for a better showing when they get the new season under way.
Shaun Gardiner’s side have been paired with AFC Melksham and, if previous encounters between the sides are anything to go by, it should be a thrilling contest.
