CALOR LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION: Boss devastated by demolition derby
FROME Town manager Derek Graham reckons that his side were always up against it going in to their clash with local rivals Chippenham Town but was nonetheless crestfallen after watching the Robins suffer a thrashing a Badgers Hill.
Frome were put to the sword as the managerless visitors filled their boots, with striker Tom Knighton rubbing salt into the rounds as he bagged a quick-fire hat-trick after coming on as a second-half substitute.
“We knew before the game started that we were in a bit of a mess with injuries and things and that showed as soon as the game started,” said Robins boss Graham.
“We were completely down to bare bones with seven or eight out and to be honest, I’m not sure if I can see if being too much better on Saturday.
“We probably had as much of the play as them but it didn’t look like we were ever going to score to be honest and from the quality of their crosses to the quality of ours, there was absolutely no comparison.
“We can’t blame anyone but ourselves really so where do you go from here? Do you throw your toys out of the bag and go away?
“We couldn’t have played them at a worse time really because they were showing a reaction but that’s not the point because we didn’t deserve anything.”
Lee Phillips headed Chippenham in front in the first half before James Guthrie capitalised on a rare spillage from Frome keeper Darren Chitty, with the winger sliding in to bundle the ball over the line.
In the 73rd minute, Joe McClennan got in down the right flank and set up Knighton for an easy tap-in and the Bluebirds man slotted home his second two minutes later.
Knighton then completed the rout as he poked home in the 90th minute.
On Saturday, Graham’s men drew 1-1 at league newcomers Burnham.
Luke Ballinger crossed for Rhys Baggridge to head Frome ahead but the hosts’ Ryan Blake levelled.
