TROWBRIDGE & DISTRICT LEAGUE DIVISION THREE: Favourites White Horse start with a win
2:00pm Monday 2nd September 2013 in Sport
WHITE Horse FC lived up to their tag as pre-season favourites for the title with a relaxed 4-0 win at fellow league newcomers Zeals.
Former Westbury United man Ross Parker scored the only goal of the first half to give White Horse the lead, after the break goals from Dan Cox, Steve Munday and Ben Mead saw Pete Ayton and Sam Gooding’s side safely home.
Drummer Boy 1 United FC 8
TOM Greatwood scored the Drummer Boy’s consolation at home to United FC, who got their season off to superb start courtesy of an 8-1 win over the Market Lavington-based side.
Two goals from Marcin Kaminski and a Josef Zapotozny single gave United a 3-0 interval lead. Kaminski completed his hat-trick early in the second half.
Agim Iljazi a second from Zapotozny plus goals from Arkdisz Jedrzejewski and substitute Mateuz Piotrowski made up United’s eight.
Holt FC 4 Trowbridge Rangers 0
TWO goals in each half helped Ben Hogg’s Holt side get their latest spell in League off to a winning start thanks to a 4-0 win at home to Trowbridge Rangers.
Jed Osborne scored the first of four goals for the new-look village side, Fynn McCarthy-Driver doubled their advantage before half time.
After the break, a Ryan Godridge double secured maximum points for Hogg’s chargers.
The Lamb Reserves 1 Marshfield FC 5
FORMER Wiltshire League outfit Marshfield made the perfect start to their first-ever league campaign with a comfortable 5-1 win at another of the division's newcomers The Lamb Reserves.
Tom Brown’s right footed curler into the bottom corner of the net on 13 minutes put Marshfield one up.
Andy Jefferies fired home from 25 yards on 18 minutes to double the visitors lead and it was game over when Jefferies added his second of the afternoon to make it 3-0 in the 25th minute when he finished off a flowing team move.
Paul Hardiman added number four on 35 minutes and although Ryan Underwood pulled a goal back for the Lamb in the 41st minute, a second goal of the game from Tom Brown on the stroke of half time completed the five-star display for Mike Lodge’s villagers.
The Stiffs 0 Polenez Westbury 2
POLENEZ Westbury have come a long way since their first season in the league back in the 2011-12 season when they managed just one victory from their 18 games.
Last season saw them fare a bit better winning four from 20 outings so a 2-0 victory at The Stiffs on the opening day will have given them the dream start they were looking for.
In an evenly-matched opening 25 minutes with half chances falling at both ends it was Polenez who made the all important breakthrough in the 26th minute.
After Stiffs defence failed to deal with a long ball out of defence the ball fell kindly to Michal Koszychi whose effort off his knee flew over the onrushing Stiffs keeper.
Shortly after at the opposite end only a smart stop for Polenez keeper David Homla kept his team ahead.
The second half was very much the same as the first with clear-cut chances very limited, but like the first half Polenez found the net when it mattered with Fatmir Kurti scoring his sides second to secure them three points.
