TROWBRIDGE & DISTRICT LEAGUE DIVISION THREE: Late goals hand Zeals victory
2:30pm Monday 16th September 2013 in Sport
AFTER suffering defeats in their opening two games The Stiffs were hoping that it would be third time lucky when they welcomed league newcomers Zeals FC to their base at the Stallards.
With just two minutes left and having come from two-down to lead 3-2 they looked on course to open their Division Three account, but with two goals in the dying embers of the game, Zeals turned the game on its head to claim a 4-3 victory.
Goals from John Fenwick and Scott Talbot gave Zeals a 2-0 lead at the interval. This was cancelled out as firstly Scott Ball reduced the arrears and then Chris Stiles restored parity for the Stiffs.
Against the odds the Stiffs went ahead through Dave Carroll and with time running out, the win looked to be theirs, however with the game heading towards added time Zeals snatched victory from the jaws of defeat as Jordan Shorrocks tied the game at 3-3 before firing home his second in as many minutes to give the visitors to Trowbridge their last-gasp triumph.
Polenez Westbury 1 Marshfield FC 1
WITH both of the top two sides in the division missing out on a game, Marshfield missed out on the chance to claim a three-way spilt with White Horse and Holt after they were held to a 1-1 draw at Polenez Westbury, who finished the game with nine players having had both Robert Bigaj and Robert Powlowski sent off.
Sebastian Koszychi scored a spectacular effort to put Polenez ahead on 23 minutes.
Marshfield earned their share of the points when Shane Andrews headed home a Jordan Bennett corner just five minutes later.
United FC 4 Trowbridge Rangers 3
UNITED FC came out on top of a seven-goal thriller at home to Trowbridge Rangers with Jozef Zapotolzny earning them a 4-3 win with what proved to be the winner five minutes from time.
United went ahead through Jacob Koman only for Cameron Thomas to square things up for Rangers.
Marcin Kaminski regained the lead for United but they were unable to maintain their advantage as a second from Thomas took the teams into the interval on level terms at two-apiece.
Trowbridge Rangers started the second half the better of the two sides and went ahead for the first time in the games with James Stone putting them 3-2 in front.
United kept pressing looking for an equaliser which arrived through Arkadiusz Jedrejewski and now sensing Rangers where their for the taking they push on looking for a winner which they got five minutes from time, Jozef Zapotolzny scoring the all-important goal.
