CHIPPENHAM & DISTRICT SUNDAY LEAGUE ERIC HUGHES MEMORIAL KNOCKOUT CUP: White Horse make it into last 16
1:00pm Monday 30th September 2013 in Sport
THE two remaining preliminary round matches from this season's presstoprint-sponsored Eric Hughes Memorial Knockout Cup took place at the weekend with the all-Division Four clash between League newcomers White Horse (Sunday) B and Melksham Forest Community Centre ending with a 5-4 victory for the former.
Goals from Adam Griggs, Chris Webber, Steve Oakley and Richard Oakley helped White Horse to a 4-2 interval lead with Dan Goldsworthy scored both in reply for the Forest.
The second half was just as exciting as the first and Melksham Forest got themselves back on level terms courtesy of goals from Jamie Proctor.
The tie looked to heading for extra time until White Horse warhorse Simon Hillman popped up to score their winner that secured their 5-4 triumph.
Cross Keys Rowde 1 Bug & Spider FC 4
LAST season’s beaten finalists Bug & Spider visited fourth division Cross Keys Rowde and, without really ever reaching top gear, the Calne-based side did what they needed to as they progressed to the next round thanks to a 4-1 win.
Goals from Steve Allison and Mark Dolman put the Bug two up.
Dolman added a second in the second half before Mark Roach pulled a goal back for Rowde whose challenge was finally killed off by a third of the morning from Dolman to wrap up victory for Jeremy Spruce’s side.
